Clued In!

To culminate our mystery unit, the students have written a mystery story. They incorporated the elements of a mystery:
Begining: An interesting lead and an introduction to the detective and the problem to solve
Middle: The detective investigating the problem – suspects, clues, unexplained events, and distractions (red herrings)
End: The detective solves the mystery

Mysteries intrigue readers to piece together clues and predict the solution. As we read books from the Cam Jansen series and the A to Z Mysteries series, the students must hone their powers of observation and read with keen interest – as not to miss a valuable clue!

The students are blogging their predictions, clue analysis, and other detective notes as they progress through a mystery novel. Click on a student’s name to the right to participate as an armchair detective. Can you follow the clues to solve the mystery?

The Grade 2/3 class began our new unit of study “Tricksters” with a visit from a leprechaun. Although unseen, the playful trickster left our classroom in disarray and a trail of gold chocolate coins.

What an exciting introduction to trickster tales and the customs of St. Patrick’s Day!
